Engine Company Operations in High Rise Buildings- Utilizing the building for success
Course Description:
Operating in standpipe equipped buildings is a complex event that requires a pragmatic understanding of the building systems we rely upon for our hoseline attack package. Standpipe systems are becoming common as our high rise skylines change and the boom in midrise multiple dwellings spreads throughout our communities. This discussion will focus on a street-smart understanding of the NFPA and life safety code requirements and building systems that may be present when operating off the standpipe including system flow requirements, fire pump requirements and troubleshooting, and recognizing and dealing with pressure restricting devices and pressure reducing valves. Understanding these complexities will help successfully tailor your hoseline attack package specific to your department’s needs.
